We’re working hard to make sure The Monitor carries on — investing in quality reporting, expanding our coverage, and building out our online presence.

But here’s the reality: rural newspapers like ours are disappearing. When they go away, communities lose a critical source of information that informs our decision-making and ensures that public officials are truly representing the people they serve. Not less, they lose a part of the sinew that connects us as people.

That’s why we’ve established The Monitor Local Journalism Fund — a way for you to help us ensure that local news continues to thrive here. Your tax-deductible donation will sustain independent journalism that serves the future of our community.

The Monitor is a for-profit company. Is my gift to The Monitor Local Journalism Fund tax-deductible?
The Monitor is launching The Monitor Local Journalism Fund in partnership with Report Local, which serves as our fiscal sponsor. Report Local, home to Report for America, is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization and your donation is tax deductible within the guidelines of U.S. law. To claim a donation as a deduction on your U.S. taxes, please keep your email donation receipt as your official record. We’ll send it to you upon successful completion of your donation.

How will my donation appear on my bank statement?
The charge will appear from “Report Local,” Report for America’s parent organization. 

How much of my donation will go to The Monitor?
100% (save for minimal credit card or check processing fees) of your donation will go to supporting local news in Jefferson County. Report Local does not take any portion of your donation.
